From past few days there have been lot of rumours about the passing criteria in CA Examinations around the social networks and it spread like a wildfire which made Board of Studies of ICAI to come forward and clarify about the same. In its official announcement, ICAI – Board of Studies said that there has been no change in passing criteria and it remained the same as it was before and asked students not to panic about the same.

 

Let us understand the passing criteria for all the 3 stages of CA Examination:

 

CPT Common Proficiency Test:

CPT Exam comprises of 4 Papers, each paper has a maximum marks as mentioned in below table, a candidate is required to secure a minimum of 30% marks in each Section and a minimum of 50 per cent marks in aggregate in all the four Sections to pass the Common Proficiency Test:

IPCC/IPC Integrated Professional Competence Course

Comprises of 7 Papers which are divided into 2 Groups, each paper carrying  a maximum of 100 marks.

If a candidate chooses to write both the groups in one sitting, then he has to secure:

  1. 40 Marks in Each Paper AND
  2. 50% i.e., 350 Marks in Aggregate of 7 Papers

If a Candidate chooses to write one group at a time, then he has to secure:

  1. 40 Marks in each paper AND
  2. 50% in Total Marks of that Group i.e., if it is First Group 200 Marks and if it is second group 150 Marks

NOTE: If a candidate secures 60 Marks or more in a paper or papers individually and didn’t clear because of aggregate total or failing in one subject, he is exempted to write THAT SPECIFIC paper/papers in which he has secured 60 Marks or more and should write the remaining papers for Next 3 examinations, if he fails to clear that group in which he got exemption in a paper/papers, he has to write all the papers again

 

 

CA Final Examination

Comprising of 8 papers, each paper carrying 100 marks

If a candidate if choose to write both the groups in one sitting, then he has to secure:

  1. 40 Marks in Each Paper AND
  2. 50% i.e., 400 Marks in Aggregate of 8 Papers

If a Candidate chooses to write one group at a time, then he has to secure:

  1. 40 Marks in each paper AND
  2. 50% i.e., 200 Marks

NOTE: If a candidate secures 60 Marks or more in a paper or papers individually and didn’t clear because of aggregate total or failing in one subject, he is exempted to write THAT SPECIFIC paper/papers in which he has secured 60 Marks or more and should write the remaining papers for Next 3 examinations, if he fails to clear that group in which he got exemption in a paper/papers, he has to write all the papers again.
